Power to the pupil: towards a new Black liberation theology within the framework of the Bahá’í Faith

This presentation examines Black liberation theology through the work of theologian James Cone who believed the Gospel of Christ shared the same fundamental objective as the Black Power movement, the liberation of the oppressed. I will look at Cone's work through the lens of the Bahá’í teachings, particularly Bahá’u’lláh's vision of Black people as the Pupil of the Eye which represents a profound shift in how people of African descent are regarded. It is my belief that this ground-breaking reimagining of Black people constitutes the spiritual framework for a New Black Liberation Theology.
